    2024 Wildfire Season

That is fucking dire. The BC interior is rapidly becoming a snow desert it seems.

Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Ah yes, many proper decisions were made in the procurement of the TAPV, AOPS, etc etc.

Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Major Johns knows his shit. The state of the Leopards is abysmal. A big problem was the lack of a unified maintenance plan because we had to maintain 2A4s, 2A6 and 2A4M all at the same time with our severely understrength tech pool.

Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

Tanks are a hard sell to Canadians by both governing parties. For the Conservatives, they are maintenance heavy and very expensive. For the Liberals they serve no purpose in our "peacekeeping" public zeitgeist since they are offensive weapons first and foremost. This rationale goes for all...

Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

You're not wrong but then at least vacant positions will mostly be filled. PS talks and people like to avoid DND. A poster above mentioned hundreds of vacancies at DND's procurement shops. Spreading them to the regions will get those spots filled as people fight for those Fed jobs. It won't...

Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

I use that as a general example but your point is taken. Ottawa having a death grip on all things DND certainly isn't helping.

Justin Trudeau hints at boosting Canada’s military spending

They should strive to spread work out to the regions. It's tough to find DND procurement staff in Ottawa. It's hard, thankless work that often gets canned under your feet after you put three years into a project. People jump ship to different departments. A solution in my book is to spread out...

Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

In your opinion, would it be better at the platoon or company level as a tool in the toolbox? Like attach them to the weapons dets?

    King Charles III Coronation Medal

There is currently an Bill tabled to created something similar, C-386. That said, it's a Tory Private Members Bill so it has about as much hope getting to second reading as a Bill to award me $1000000

    Colour me convinced.

    King Charles III Coronation Medal

Not to mention it's frequently far more dangerous than most deployments. 30 consecutive days would be appropriate imo.

    The War in Ukraine

Apparently the Ukrainians have cut off a BTG or so worth of troops in Vovchansk. They're hunkered in a chemical plant and are getting pounded by Ukrainian glide bombs. The irony...

    King Charles III Coronation Medal

"ThAt'S wHaT tHe Cd Is FoR!" Such a lame excuse. Also lame when applied to the lack of DOMOPS honours and awards. We do such a piss poor job of recognizing our guys. Not saying we go full American (never go full American), but sometimes some ribbons and gongs are good for morale.

    Canada's tanks

Hope so! The Leo RC 3.0 prototype does have a coax cutout.

    Canada's tanks

Certainly would require something since there's no coax haha. Silly design if you ask me. The Gnr/comd should have a coax 7.62 and there should be a fourth crewman who is the air sentry and manning a distinct AD RWS. Give the comd a screen to give fire control orders.

    Canada's tanks

Diminishing returns in terms of armour. You can make it infinitely more expensive in terms of armour, make it as solid as a Chally if you want, but a well placed ATGM will still kill. Further more, tough to armour a radar, as long as you can sensor kill it, it may as well be dead. I think the A...

    Canada's tanks

Putting your Gepard in a tank fight is a good way to get your Gepard killed. The furthest forward I want that is ideally the A1 or A2 Ech. Put them in the F Ech and the first thing I shoot is the box with the big spinny thing...then unleash the drones. One bound to the rear would provide ample...

    Infantry Vehicles

That's exactly what the reservists in Latvia are doing for the RCAC, they're A ech drivers who are getting AFV quals to fill holes as needed. It's a tried and true system. I can't see why the same system couldn't work in the RCIC just like you said.

Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

From what I've heard and read, the C20 has been well received as a DMR and with a .66 MOA, it's more than sufficient for its role. They should be making hundreds of the things and shipping them to every Reg and Res combat arms unit.
