Unfortunately (for me anyway), the Air Force has retained the gold trim on the mess kits. To me, the gold has the double advantage of being both garish and expensive. I would have happily switched to silver/grey.
But I guess a lot of people don't want to put any more money into a...
Good day all,
Does anyone who the why of the 35 day break? If I understand correctly, legislatively annuitants only need a single day break to avoid being re-enrolled in the pension. So why 35 days? Is there a real reason for it or was it just a random decision with the intent of creating a...
I have a very good friend who is a lawyer in another government department. He joined the Public Service later in life. When he joined, they asked him what his birth tongue was, and he said English. And while this was true, as a toddler his family moved and started communicating exclusively...
Even when the misconduct constitutes assault, the victim does have the option of having the NIS investigate if he/she/they prefers. And many people are choosing to keep their complaints within the CAF.
Of course not. I like the ceremonial, no actual exercised power aspect of it all.
The crown is a symbol. Symbols have their own power. And the monarchy is a link to our history. Our history is not pretty or glorious. It is messy, often brutal and was usually flagrantly unfair. Which in my...
I personally am happy to have a non-elected head of state. Our main parties have consistently failed to present leaders that would appeal to moderate Canadians. (And I am a very moderate Canadian.) I frequently find our elected head of government to be ...embarrassing.
While His Majesty is...
Actually, we weren't allowed to permit it when I was a manager in ADM(Mat). Our director didn't like it so we weren't supposed to do it. (Doesn't mean it never happened.) ;) Sometimes it's just common sense.
The problem I have found with the public service is that you are not allowed to manage civilian pers according to their capabilities. Some people are perfectly productive working at home. Others produce little to nothing. But if those two employees are at the same level doing the same job...
I'm remembering the strike in 1991. I had a friend who was vociferously anti-union and crossed the picket line. It was ugly; there were threats and physical altercations. Personal relationships never recovered.
We had a number of clashes on the picket line in Trenton and tempers were very...
Do pers in the Navy uniform all have ballcaps? I thought they only received them if they served on a ship.
I'm in the NCR and have seen a number of pers in NCDs wearing berets.
How is everyone else adapting to the new regs?
So far, I've only seen one person with brightly coloured hair (pink) and it appears she's letting it fade out. I expect the time and money required to maintain fancy colours is a disincentive.
I'm getting used to most of the changes and they...
All my links have long expired. It's funny how so much info was easier to find in the 90s.
I think the quickest and easiest way forward is to simply call or email the NPSC (National Passenger Centre) and ask how to find the info. My cynical side thinks that it is deliberately hard to find in...
Keeping the existing fleet operating is increasingly problematic. The OEM doesn't even make many of the required parts any more and we don't require them in sufficient quantity to generate large purchase orders. So we pay through the nose and the vendors are not highly motivated to meet...
I looked into doing that in between contracts. It can be done. But they claw it back on your next year's taxes so there's limited value in doing so unless you really need the cash flow at that particular juncture.
